Kent residents have many exciting opportunities to take part in the Coronation Weekend’s Big Help Out on Monday, May 8.
For outdoor enthusiasts, there are options galore. Knole is hosting a wildflower survey, the CPRE is encouraging people to carry out hedgerow surveys, and the Ramblers is appealing for people to to walk their local paths and report any issues. The RSPCA is encouraging people to take small measures to become wildlife friends, and the Inland Waterways Association is asking people to photograph any areas of concern on their local river
The Scouts and Girlguiding have provided myriad micro-opportunities to help – from spring-cleaning huts to litter picks. And for those who might be considering volunteering more regularly, there are lots of online sessions with organisations such as Age UK, Silver Line, the NSPCC and Citizens Advice, where people can learn more about the roles of telephone befriending, volunteering in schools and advising. There are also taster sessions to give people a flavour of everything from volunteering in a charity shop to fostering a guide dog.
