Why Volunteer

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is something everyone can do.

Volunteering’s not just about giving back to others and the community – it goes both ways. It improves your wellbeing, gives you skills for the future, and helps you make new friends (and memories).

Whatever your interests, wherever you live, whether you have a lot of time or a little. If you want to change the world, your street or improve your CV, maybe you want to give something back, make new friends, or gain a skill.

Anyone who has spare time can volunteer. Across Kent there are already many volunteers from many different backgrounds, abilities and ages – but there is always room for another! Remember you can’t help everyone but you definitely help someone!

There is no upper age barrier to volunteering, but volunteers must be over 14 years-old. For some roles you will need to be over 18 years-old – this will be included in the description for the volunteer role.

What can I do as a volunteer?

Almost anything!

Have a look on our website to find out what’s available in your area and follow the Kent Volunteer Partnership on Facebook and Twitter to keep up-to-date with all the latest opportunities. Whatever it is you would like to do, there’s a good chance an organisation out there is looking for someone just like you. If you don’t see anything that quite takes your fancy, then please get in touch and we will try to find you something that is right up your street.

How much time do I need to give?

It’s entirely up to you. Many roles involve just a few hours a week or month on a regular or flexible basis. Plus there are lots of events that happen just once a year which simply need help in the run up or on the day of the event. No matter what you do or how much time you have, volunteering can make a big difference to your community and to you!

Will I be out of pocket?

This shouldn’t be the case as most organisations will often reimburse travel expenses.
